Tregenna’s very own proposals package
It’s the most important question you’ll ever ask. You want to create the right atmosphere, as well as making a wonderful memory for your shared future. That’s quite a lot of pressure… But don’t worry – we’re here to help you. Working in one of Cornwall’s most romantic hotels, the Tregenna team has lots of romantic – and proven successful – ideas for your proposal.
We’ve put together a proposals package to help you create the right atmosphere for that once-in-a-lifetime question. You can stay in a self-catering lodge, with a lovely view over St Ives, and one of our chefs will come round to cook a delectable three-course meal for you.
Of course, the actual proposal doesn’t have to take place at Tregenna. Here are our suggestions of romantic places to propose in West Cornwall. Pop out, pop the question, then pop back for a celebratory dinner à deux at Tregenna Castle.
Proposing on Porthminster Beach
Almost at the bottom of our garden, Porthminster Beach is one of West Cornwall’s most beautiful stretches of yellow sand, lapped by sparkling, always-turquoise sea. It has the lovely Porthminster Beach Café for a romantic lunch, or you could grab an excellent take-out and sit on the sand together (although watch out for the seagulls if you do this. Nothing ruins the moment like a greedy gull).
It can be busy in the height of summer, so choose your moment. One of the times to catch Porthminster at its best is early in the morning. Get up extra early, write your proposal on the sand, then scurry back to bed before you’ve been missed?
The romantic St Michael’s Mount
St Michael’s Mount, the iconic tidal island in West Cornwall, has so many beautiful places to propose: the castle terraces, the tranquil medieval chapel, the subtropical terraced gardens, and (if you don’t mind an audience at close quarters) on one of the island’s small ferry boats. Although it can get busy, you can always find a romantic corner somewhere. (Or phone or email ahead and tell them your plans. The team at the Mount really are all romantics at heart and will be happy to help you…!)
Alternatively, choose St Michael’s Mount as a stunning backdrop. Propose on Marazion Beach at sunset, or on the terrace at the Godolphin Arms. Go up Trencrom Hill, a hill fort near Lelant. From there, you get wonderful views of the Mount and across both coasts of West Cornwall; and it’s a wonderfully windswept, Poldarkish sort of place to propose.
Gorgeous Cape Cornwall
Way down west, Cape Cornwall is the alternative Land’s End. Managed by the National Trust, the Cape is a small headland just outside St Just. Walk to the top, and be rewarded with glorious Atlantic views. Remote, and wildly beautiful, this is real romance, Cornish style.
There are many other lovely places along the coast path. Head round Land’s End to the east coast, and visit the little coves at Porthgwarra and Porthchapel, the Minack theatre and the incomparable Porthcurno beach.
The wet weather options
Let’s be realistic – this is Britain, after all. Cosy pubs are always a good option – try The Tinners in Zennor. The dining car at the Bodmin and Wenford heritage railway would be a lovely, old-style romantic gesture.
And of course, we can place all the facilities of Tregenna Castle at your disposal! Over dinner, in one of our lovely lodges, sheltering under a tree in the grounds…
We’d love to help you propose to your loved one. Before you ask him or her the important question, first ask yourself this one: how do I want to do this? Then please contact us, and we’ll help you create the perfect proposal day for you and your fiancée (see – we’re optimistic!).
Drift off for a good night's sleep in the comfort of any of our 81 bedrooms.
