The Tate collection has always been a landmark of both British and international culture throughout the UK and we are lucky enough to have one right on our doorstep. After closing for winter, the Tate St Ives is reopening on 31st March 2017 and we are very very excited!
Home to the works of the legendary artist and sculptor, Barbara Hepworth, Tate St Ives is one of the best art galleries and museums in Cornwall. Here’s a few more reasons we think a trip to St Ives isn’t complete without a visit to the Tate.
New exhibition: The Studio and The Sea
The influence of the sea on the works of local artists is undeniable. This new two-part exhibition looks at the connection between pottery, sculpture, paintings, and the beautiful Celtic Sea just ten minutes from our front door. Find out more about this exhibition here.
Celebrating female artists
Filmmaker Jenn Nkiru showcased some of the female artists on display throughout the Tate collection in celebration of International Women’s Day earlier this month in a striking short film you can find here.
Ocean facing galleries
It’s not very often you can admire art while admiring the view! In March Jessica Warboys will fill the ocean facing galleries in her first ever solo exhibition featuring large scale paintings, films and sculptures inspired by the coast. Find out more about her exhibition here.
Free films every Friday
Every Friday the Tate St Ives play films and documentaries relating to the subjects and themes covered in their current exhibitions. Entry is covered in your exhibition ticket and will provide a unique insight into artists’ decisions, inspirations, and most accomplished works. Find out more here.
Tate St Ives is less than 15 minutes from our front gate, so you can easily add a little extra culture to your next family holiday in Cornwall – and it opens just in time for Easter!
