Explore Cornwall

We are lucky enough to be located in the heart of Cornwall. Just walking distance from St Ives, Tregenna Castle Resort is the perfect base for a family holiday by the seaside. There are many exciting activities and excursions on your doorstep for those looking to explore and discover the best of Cornish life.

Tregenna is the perfect base to explore nearby attractions and the coastline of Cornwall, creating memories to last a lifetime. A short walk through our wooded estate leads you to the beautiful harbour town of St Ives. Visitors to this historic and picturesque Cornish town are drawn to its shops, restaurants and fascinating museums, as well as the golden sand beaches where families can play all day. The list of activities and attractions here and in the vicinity is (almost) endless. Here are our favourite sights to see and things to do for all the family right here in Cornwall.

  • The beautiful beaches of St Ives - Porthminster

The peaceful, golden sands of Porthminster beach are the equal of the Mediterranean on a summer’s day. It’s the nearest beach to Tregenna Castle Resort – just 200m from our pedestrian gate onto Trelyon Avenue. The family-friendly amenities include mini golf, beach huts and an award-winning beachside café-restaurant – Porthminster is accessible for those with mobility difficulties. The crystal clear waters are perfect for family fun, such as paddling, swimming and snorkelling. For more adventurous activities, head to St Ives Water Sports Centre, where you can hire wetsuits, stand up paddle boards and kayaks. From here you can go stand up paddle boarding, take a guided kayak tour of the bay or go coasteering.

  • The beautiful beaches of St Ives - Gwithian

Discover St Ives in a new light at Gwithian, a magnificent beach just outside Hayle. Boasting fantastic views over picturesque St Ives, Gwithian is a hotspot for local wildlife. From common seals to sea birds, this beach provides a fantastic play area and relaxation spot for any family holiday in Cornwall. A popular spot with surfers, this beach is the ideal place to unleash the adventurer within you. A few short steps away you will find a shop selling everything from beach toys and groceries to books, so everything you and your family needs is in one place. One of the most exciting beaches in St Ives, Gwithian is full of rock pools and caves waiting to be discovered by your little ones, excellent for family day trips in Cornwall. Before you head back for another relaxing evening at Tregenna Castle Resort, treat your family to something really special, with a meal from the Rockpool Seafood Cafe Bar and Grill, just off the shore at Gwithian.

  • The beautiful beaches of St Ives - Porthmeor

Porthmeor is one of our favorite beaches, perfect for a summer day trip, and is fantastic for all the family. With beautifully clear waters, just sit back and relax, taking in the breathtaking views of Cornwall’s famous coastline. It is also one of Cornwall’s premier surf spots, ideal for all standards of surfer. St Ives Surf School is located near the middle of the beach, and we recommend them for your first lesson, through to refresher and more experienced surf coaching. You can also hire boards and wetsuits here. There are two good quality food takeaway and eat in restaurants on the beach. The beach is life guarded from Easter through until October. For any late night adventurers, watching the sun set from this stretch of Cornish coast, is a truly unmissable experience.  Just behind the beach is the Tate St Ives, ideal for anyone wanting to indulge in a spot of culture during your family holiday in Cornwall.

  • Culture in St Ives

The Tate St Ives isn’t the only place to immerse yourself in the culture and history of this beautiful seaside town. Penlee Park Open Theatre provides a fantastic day out for all the family as a band of Shakespeare enthusiasts put on an energetic performance come rain or shine in this open air theatre in Penlee Park, Penzance. The season runs from June to September, so be prepared for unpredictable weather, and pack an umbrella just in case. The show must go on! To get stuck into your own creative projects, take the family down to Barnoon Workshop, providing classes and activities for adults and children during school holidays. All materials are provided and classes are designed for all abilities.

  • Paradise Park (Hayle)

Treat your family to a day in paradise. This award-winning wildlife sanctuary, located in Hayle, a short drive or train journey from St Ives, is guaranteed to bring a smile to everyone’s faces. From penguins to guinea pigs, this interactive park includes everything you need for a fun, exciting family day out in Cornwall. Meet over 600 colourful birds, say hello to the rabbits, goats and donkeys in the Fun Farm, and top the whole day off with a run around in Paradise Park’s ‘Junglebarn’, an indoor play area offering fantastic fun whatever the weather.
